Part-man, part-machine, RoboCop is, in 1987, the first cyborg cop in the history of film, in a legendary film that would truly launch Paul Verhoeven’s career. The Rennes-based trio FRAGMENTS, which revisited Fargo by the Coen brothers in a memorable live rendition of the original soundtrack, offers up a fascinating performance, full of synthetic textures, disturbing keyboard sequences, and robotic rhythms. With its machines and synths, their very electro post-rock leaves behind the extreme violence to revive the ambiguous political message of this work, which divided critics all while walking away with multiple Oscars. A powerful sensorial experience to (re)watch this satirical dystopia of an ultra-safe America in a new way.
