School films are rare treasures, free from the constraints of the market. A crucible of hopes, a story, and a future, the school film bears witness to a generation’s view of the world.

Over a period of 8 days in Poitiers, young filmmakers, industry professionals, and the general public came together around school films and shared in their creative effervescence: previews, screenings of shorts and features, debates, master classes, cinema-sandwiches, Piou-piou screenings for children, discussions with renowned female filmmakers (Emmanuelle Bercot, Dominique Cabrera, Claire Burger).

This year, the Focus showcased the Danish cinema that melts away genre conventions and frozen habits (Lars von Trier, Thomas Vintenberg, Nicolas Winding Refn). The National Film School of Denmark and the Fémis (two major European film schools) also celebrated their anniversaries in Poitiers and Jump In, a professional initiative for young talents, was inaugurated.

Finally, film lovers from all horizons discovered the International Selection (50 films, 30 schools, and 20 countries) and budding young filmmakers!

The goal here is to find the cinema that is not (yet) afraid of the consequences, that creates without constraint, and allows itself total freedom… A joyful creative exuberance and the unveiling of the talents of tomorrow.
